A Year Ago, We Thought Someone Might Die
Revisiting Red Bull Cape Fear, 2016.
One year to the day, the east coast of Australia was hammered with the wildest swell it has seen in a decade and a half. Over 3000 Sydneysiders found themselves in emergency shelters due to the storm. The same storm that gave Red Bull’s Cape Fear the green light, causing surf fans worldwide to literally held their breath while watching the webcast. Each wave had two cheers: One for the wave itself, the next for the surfers head popping out of the wash or on the back of the ski, appearing (somewhat) unharmed. This is the trailer for, Conquering The Storm, an upcoming half-hour documentary profiling the first legitimate tow event to run at Ours. Fit with commentary from contest director, Mark Mathews, and action from the event, it’ll be a good watch. But if anything, gives us an excuse to revisit those two days.
