Tales From The Quiver With Dave Rastovich
“When I was 14, I got tied up naked to the trees at Burleigh for riding weird boards. It was kind of like grommet abuse.”
The average surfer has a three-five board quiver…if they’re lucky. Usually one or two require a new fin box or sport a nose that’s un-mysteriously absent, held together by globs of sun cure resin and is reserved for summertime shorey – or become the go-to when the rest of your boards deteriorate and cash flow is stunted. Upon viewing the blade collection of notable pro’s it’s hard to resist envy. In their garages and houses boards sit like crooked dominos, packed into racks, corners, beneath beds and sewn into the rafters. Some are revered as “magic”, some are “dead”. But, each tells a tale and sets us back to a nostalgic place and time. Here, Rasta candidly describes the pivotal boards of his career. He discusses everything from his favourite twinnies and the board Andy Irons gave him to the piece of foam that got him “tied up, nude, by leggies to the pines trees at Burleigh.” The dose of archival and recent footage between scenes is delightful and Rasta’s surfing is so full of life.
