Surf Travel Advice: Leave Your Expectations At Baggage Claim

Luis Perloiro finds unexpected delight in an African archipelago.

It’s funny how much we expect things to align when we paddle out for a session.

The crowd should be minimal, the wind should be just right and, of course, the waves should be flawless. If I had a dollar for how often I’ve gone to bed thinking tomorrow would be the day, I’d buy a plane ticket to somewhere that’s a guarantee (Abu Dhabi, anyone?).

Portuguese surfer Luis Perloiro is well accustomed to the joys and agonies that come with swell hunting. In his efforts to take a more long-from and cinematic approach to documenting his travels, Luis offers a candid look at the emotional peaks and valleys he goes through to get his kicks.

In his latest video series, On The Chase – For Eternal Memories, Luis’s quest to find “the right of our lives,” winds up falling flat, literally. However, he ends up finding a respectable right point and a particularly delightful left somewhere in an African archipelago.

No, Luis did not score the waves of his life in this edit. But he had a shit ton of fun. Hit play above, and enjoy the scenery and editing that would make Ridley Scott blush.
