Stab Highway Europe Presented By Monster Energy, Episode 1

We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into.

Barring Big Dick Power Surfer, none of our production team had spent meaningful time in Europe prior to this year’s Stab Highway presented by Monster Energy.

We’d seen the films, sampled the exported wines, and even learned a bit of the language(s). But nothing could prepare us for what we’d experience during a 10-day roadtrip through France, Spain, and Portugal in the beginning of summer.

As it turns out, Europe isn’t as great as people make it out to be — it’s so much better. We hope this comes across through our four-part episodic series, along with how loose surfing (or in many cases, not surfing) can still be in 2023.

So bienvenu, bienvenidos, e bem-vindo to the most cultured edition of Stab Highway presented by Monster Energy yet — and enjoy episode one above!

This year’s competition will feature 16 surfers broken into 4 teams, each of which has three males and one female (the team captain).

Over the course of nine days, the teams will drive from Hossegor, France to Lisbon, Portugal (approximately 900 miles/1,400km) while trying to complete 120 surf- and land-based challenges worth varying point values.

The challenges are broken down into three regions — France, Spain, and Portugal — unless they are one of the five Monster Challenges, which span the entire course of the trip (for a refresher on all the challenges, read here).

The worst performing teams (based on cumulative point totals) will be eliminated at the end of each region, and the winners will be determined by a surprise final challenge between the two remaining teams.
