Surfing will progress, it’s inevitable. Fast forward twenty years, or even ten, pro surfing will be unrecognisable. Majority of the top 34 will have slipped into the shade (excluding Kelly perhaps), their fire smothered by the vibrant groms and rookies of today. The webcast will feature a fresh set of faces. A bright new cast of stars to dazzle, entertain and create their own forms of controversy. Just who’ll be calling out the “tennis tour”, swearing at judges or stomping the first double twist in a jersey is yet to be seen, though together with Quiksilver, we’ve been working to find out. Welcome back to Young Guns, you’ve tuned in just in time for the main event.

On the eve of the beginning of the grand finale (and right after the warm-ups went down!), we have for you young Sammy Pupo. Surely you’ll recognise that surname. Yes, he’s the younger brother of Brazilian world tour surfer, Miguel Pupo. The two share genetic blessings, one being fantastic abilities on a surfboard. Sammy is QS ready, at the very least. While many of his rival’s edits are based around a compilation of single-move bangers, the younger Pupo bro doubles down with the combos. If he can follow this approach up in the finals, he’ll have an easy time ticking the judge’s boxes and walking away $10k richer.

“The waves on my video was in Hawaii last year, and a couple of waves from my homebreak Maresias,” said Sammy. “My favourite session was at Off The Wall, I surfed for around two hours that day, with just my friends out.”

Last place I surfed was Jimmis.

Last move I pulled was a straight frontside air.

Last board I rode was a 5’11 , 18 , 2 1/4 shaped by my dad ( OHP Surfboards ).

Last claim I pulled was at the Ballito Pro this year.

Last song I listened to was ” The Day You Died ” by Phantogram.

Last film I watched was Ghost in the Shell.

Last book I read was Paper Towns by John Green.

Last google search was Denis Shapovalov.

Last person I pranked was my girlfriend.

Last person I stalked on instagram was Roger Federer.

Last text message was Eu te amo to my girlfriend.

Last meal my parents cooked me was a Brazilian BBQ.

Last surfer that got me pumped was Filipe Toledo.

With the Indonesian final unravelling as we speak, keep it dialled for updates.
