RVCA’s Part In The North Shore Lifeguard Association Is Commendable
Think Kalani Chapman, think Evan Geiselman.
The North Shore lifeguards have a shortage of staff. A fight due to lack of state funding that’s resulted in more drownings in the treacherous waters of the miracle than any sadist could find pleasurable. RVCA, being a company with the most eclectic batch of sponsored riders, have their finger in every pie. This is because Pat Tenore is a wizard when it comes to marketing and keeping the folks that promote his company happy. It’s that old “I scratch your back you scratch mine” mantra that keeps the VA kicking. And as RVCA continues to scoop up some of Hawaii’s most notorious hitters, think Bruce Irons, Dustin Barca, Kala Alexander, Makua Rothman, Tyler Newton and recently Noah Beschen; they’ve also gone ahead and sponsored the North Shore Lifeguards. Dave Wassel, a big wave guru and NS Lifeguard told Stab this time last year that, “We’re bargaining for more money. In doing that we will have to allocate enough resources for 50 new full-timers. That’s what the push is. I’m not sure if we’ll get 50, it’s wishful thinking but anything would be nice.” They ended up with a 16 percent pay raise, which was less than they were bargaining for but a step in the right direction.
