Pipeline Was Pumping Yesterday
Opening day in early October? You betcha.
And just like that, the North Pacific is awake!
Last year it was late October when Pe’ahi reared its head, offering BWT competitors a chance to ride the Maui mountain in its premier form – big, blue, and remarkably clean. This year Pipeline came to life hardly past September, which is early for a NPAC swell but certainly not unprecedented.
Those lucky enough to be on Oahu when this swell hit (which means, essentially, locals) were blessed with 6-10 foot Pipeline, which had fairly good shape considering it was the first swell of the season. As we’ve been told by the locals for decades, Pipe doesn’t take its true form until the summer sands have been washed off the reef by a couple big west swells.
This clip marks the transition into the Northern Hemi winter, where waves like Pipe, Jaws, and Rubber Duckies will make up the majority of our feed. Hope you’re ready for Hawaii szn!
