Pete Devries, the Canadian winter
Pete Devries loves the cold. Can you believe? it doesn’t even inhibit his surfing! “Wetsuits have gotten so much better in the last 10 years, if you keep paddling and keep catching waves, you stay warm,” he says. “I’ve surfed seven-hour days in winter! You can get away with it these days with a good suit. I feel like I perform better. I’m so used to boots now because I wear them all year round. I don’t even really do warm surf trips anymore. I have formed this niche, so when I go on trips I’ll go somewhere cold. Anywhere warm takes me a while to get used to without booties. Surfing in my booties feels perfected.”
