Pat Gudauskas Scuffs The Felt At J-Bay
The man loves to put some English on the 1-ball.
Pat Gudauskas surfs like the Energizer Bunny.
Halfway through one turn, his mind is already onto the next, and his body follows soon thereafter. This works well at a wave like J-Bay, which demands that your momentum stay down the line at all times. Naturally, Pat has figured out a way to turn what was once a wave-sacrificing carve into a functional maneuver.
Once near the top of the wave, Pat grabs his rail and starts redirecting his board back toward the pocket. Around the time when his nose is pointing to the wave’s trough, Pat uses his arm, legs, hips, and torso to rip back to the whitewash in a singular, line-breaking motion, scuffing J-Bay’s gorgeous green felt with the brutality of his hack.
Once he’s completed this rotation, Pat releases his grip and immediately switches the weight back to his toeside rail, keeping his speed toward the shoulder.
Check out its many variations above.
