Noa Deane Dumps Hard Drives Into New Edit ‘Flipper’
One person’s trash is another person’s surf motivation.
One time my buddy and I found an old Playmate lying flat in front of a dumpster.
No, no, no—not that kind of Playmate. It was a Playmate iGenie, a machine that launches tennis balls at various speeds. We took the antique robot home, blew some dust off the wires, et voila! It worked perfectly. After terrorizing the neighborhood with our cannon, we sold the machine and secured beer funds.
My buddy and I cleaned golf clubs at a country club, and there was always cool shit by that dumpster. It’s where local rich people went to throw away perfectly good belongings. I took home patio furniture, golf bags, and anything else that had resell value. Some days I made more money from the dumpster than I did on my pay stub. It was a marvelous, albeit stinky, green box of giving.
Noa Deane may or may not be a millionaire, but his trash is filled with something much more valuable: Fucked up surf clips. A b-roll highlight tape that many free surfers couldn’t match in five years of filming.
