Neo Tokyo Is About To Explode: An imagined future! Starring Monster riders: Conner Coffin, Dillon Perillo and Brendon GibbensConcept and Creative Direction by Miles PittCinematography by Beren Hall and Paul DanielPhotography by Thomas Carey and Ben Bergh Edit by Toby Cregan | Music by Elliot Struck A wave of nuclear chemical spills and civil unrest births an unlikely future for Japan, and it is all shades of neon. It is the year 2019, and rumours about a public pool, deep within the old city, have circulated. As acid rain falls on the city, Dillon Perillo, Brendon Gibbens and Conner Coffin arrive outside the abandoned downtown pool in the middle of Neo-Tokyo, in the 17th District at the end of Highway 26, beneath the neon lights and strange acid rain, ready to venture into a in a secret theatre of vivid light… Neo Tokyo is About To Explode is a Stab concept shoot that reimagines surf photography. Extravagance is a lure for Stab and the idea to line a wavepool with lasers required very little persuasion. The night would then kill the lights, and we’d photograph Dillon Perillo, Conner Coffin and Brendon Gibbens in a fictitious Neo-Tokyo, circa 2019. Behind the scenes, we couldn’t have foreseen that lasers would fry the camera sensors, or water so cold Conner would require two steamers. Or that we’d break the pool pump with too much flight. And yet, it was worth it all given such acute beauty rarely plays for free…
