Miguel Tudela is a Peruvian national, 20 years old and a two-to-twenty guy. He’s got wild variety, as comfortable in rotation as he is on a long decent. It’s easy to find gents who can spring in waist-high conditions and scratch through a six foot tube in time for the spit. But they often miss the drum kick when it comes to performing in double, triple overhead.

Matt Bemrose, Volcom Int. team manager, has never seen a kid take to 15-foot Pipe for their first session like Miguel did. And to really prove this act isn’t forced, last winter he paddled Phantoms solo. Without a vest.

See, Miguel grew up near Pico Alto, the WSL Big Wave tour stop in Peru, and at 12 years old would flag Mum’s rules and surf the break anyway. But, what makes him different to others with multiple lengths in their knife collections, like, say, Albee Layer, is Miguel’s got fire for the jersey. He want’s tour life. And with Yago Dora as a sparing partner, there’s no doubt Volcom really understand team selection.
