Laurie Towner Ain’t Going Nowhere
Except Jaws, and maybe Teahupo’o.
Back in November of last year, Laurie Towner released his first video section after losing his main sponsor Billabong in 2014. That short film, Keeping On, functioned to explain where Laurie Towner had been the last four years and why.
Laurie’s friend Caleb Graham made the film, and because Laurie was no longer a professional surfer, Caleb did the whole thing out of pocket, for the sole reason that he believed in Laurie’s abilities as a waverider.
Turns out that their filmed worked, at least partially, as Laurie has been given a small travel budget from Australia’s every-man wetsuit brand, Need Essentials. With that cash Laurie visited Jaws for the first time in his career, and is still looking to cash-in on another of those Teahupo’o super-swells, should it ever come.
Above is a Need-produced clip of Laurie’s last few months, which he spent mostly at home, enjoying the warmth of family and a playful rock ledge nearby. We can only hope that a major brand will pick this cat up and give the surfing world what it wants: More Laurie Towner.
