Lakey Peterson’s First Time At Chopes
COVID be damned, Lakey stays locked in.
Roughly 4 months ago the WSL granted all surf fan’s wishes by placing Tahiti on the Women’s World Tour schedule.
This is the first opportunity for the women to compete on the elite level at the fabled wave since 2006, meaning a literal whole generation of surfers have come and gone in the interim. For some context, 2006 was Layne Beachley’s last world title.
We must admire the astute nature of Lakey’s Tahitian strike. Between the women’s combined lack of competitive experience and the generally accepted principle that frontside tube riding is ‘easier’, Lakey and her fellow but draggers would do well to get all of the experience they can before the event’s run date.
We’ll be dishing more on the Tour’s 2021 COVID pivot schedule shortly, including whether they have come up with a creative solution for the Corona J-Bay Open. In the meantime click above for Lakey’s first go at the End of the Road.
