Kanoa Igarashi Shares The Bristol Pool With Team Red Bull (And His Former Girlfriend!)

Come for the rom-com, stay for the leashed-up skimboard!

Imagine breaking up with your long-time significant other, traversing the intricate self-loathing and reconstruction phases, then coming across her at a company party some two years later.

Not an ideal situation, most would say.

From the video above, it appears that ex-lovers and co-Red Bull athletes, Kanoa Igarashi and Teresa Bonvalot, kept a friendly distance during their team visit to test Bristol, England’s new Wavegarden Cove facility, ‘The Wave’.

Also in attendance was Brazilian rhino hunter Lucas Chumbo (who is surprisingly adept in the small stuff, though he should probably hold that grab a little longer), the Portuguese don Tiago Pires (a little chunkier but still got it!), and last year’s skimboard World Champ, Lucas Fink (whose leashed-up skimmer had me rolling on the ground in a fit of chuckles), along with a dozen other Red Bull athletes.

As for the wave, now that we’ve seen it from all angles and tested by a range of talent, we can admit that it appears rather short, sectiony, and small.

Probably still a hoot to surf but not game-changing in any way, besides maybe wave count.

“That’s the good part about this wave—the amount of waves that come through,” Kanoa stated, post-surf, while wrapped in some thick, luxurious fabric. “I love it because you stay warm.”
