Ian Crane Debuts Mayhem’s New Kingfish At A Surf Destination You Probably Haven’t Been To
“We were supposed to be there for a week but it ended up being so fun that we posted up for a month.”
“I’m doing this new series called the Board Report on my Beach Head YouTube, just kind of highlighting whatever new board models Matt Biolos has been making,” Ian Crane told me yesterday. “It’s been pretty fun grabbing a board and riding it until I figure it out and then posting whatever clips I get on it. Some of them have had more talking about the board and then this one’s just a surf clip of me and Yasmine.
The footage comes on the heel end of a trip Crano did to Ecuador, to film for Snapt5 with Balaram Stack.
“We were there for a week, which I thought was going to be the length of the entire trip. And then it ended up being so fun that we flew out our chicks and posted up for a month. There’s so many waves over there. We were cruising with the local guys there and every day we were surfing some sort of fun wave. It was a mental trip.
“The board in this clip is called the Kingfish, and it’s basically just a fat boy Round Nose Fish. This board is pretty straightforward, you just ride it when the waves are sloppy and weird. If you just want to cruise or a softer wave or whatever, it was just a fun board to have. And Yasmine, my chick is all set because it’s small enough to fit in my board bag now, and she loves riding it. I was just riding it as a thruster most of the time.”
