How The North Shore Reacted To The Ballistic Missile Scare
Reminiscing with Bruce Irons, Nathan Fletcher, Koa Rothman and more at the Weedmaps Pipe House.
At the beginning of January, we accompanied Weedmaps for their second Pipe Experience. About a week into the trip, there was a rude awakening. At 8:09 AM phones squealed. We awoke with hazy eyes to a message that, in all caps, read “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER, THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”
Everyone reacted differently.

Bruce went back to sleep. Nate Fletcher hurried back to his family (he was on the road at the time the intro to this clip hijacked the radio).
On Kam Highway, people ran across the street to take shelter at Sunset Elementary. It was pandemonium in the Honolulu airport. Later, there would be a video clip in Honolulu of a child being dropped into the sewer for protection.

After a long 45 minutes, a new message came through, “There is no missile threat of danger to the state of Hawaii. Repeat. False Alarm.”
To which we thought, What the fuck? in relief.
Here we present the WM’s “Are you Pipe Experienced?” episode two. Inside you’ll find everything from the missile scare, plenty of tubes ridden by Nate Fletcher, Bruce Irons, Koa Rothman, Tyler Newton, Joel Tudor and Seth Moniz, Aaron “Jaws” Homoki riding his skateboard off a roof and so much more.
Hit that triangle! (And watch episode one here.)
