How Many (Pro) Surfers Could Survive in the Wild?
A case for traditional knowledge with Kalum Bruhwiler.
Kalum Bruhwiler is a very lucky boy.
He was born in a beautiful place, to a beautiful family, who groomed him into a beautiful surfer. But not just a surfer. Kalum’s grandma, Gisele (who after watching this film is one of our favorite people…ever), believes that one’s skills must reach beyond riding waves. To be a complete human, you have to be able to put food on the table and a roof over your head. And she’s not talking about trading crypto.
“Your computer won’t hunt for you when you’re hungry,” Gisele said. “These are all things we must see differently. Nature is too important.”
As a result of his upbringing, Kalum learned all the necessary parts of surfing in Canada’s west—boating, hunting, fishing, building shelters, presumably fending off bears. So enjoy Kalum’s surfing, but mostly fall in love with his grandma in ‘Primitive’ by Benoit Lalande.
