From Norway To The Tropics With Asher Pacey And Beau Foster
Across the globe in fifteen cinematic minutes.
“You keen? We’re leaving in two days.” Filmmaker Dean Fergus asks Asher Pacey over the phone. “Shit, I have to move out of my house, find a place for my jet ski and be on a flight in 36 hours, ummm, fuck it i’m in..” Shortly after similarly hasty calls with northern NSW free-surfer Beau Foster and photographer Rod Owen, the group are on a plane bound for Oslo. What entailed was a month-long adventure from Hoddevik, Norway to Indonesia, chasing snow, auroras, waves and evening entertainment along the way.
Produced for TRVLSurf.com, this short film is split into three parts, beginning with Norway, to day fifteen when they arrive in Sumatra (where the surfing quality really lights up) and finishing at Nihiwatu – that dreamy left-hander Occy surfed in Jack Mccoy’s The Green Iguana back in ’92. Sure, the Indonesian parts of the film are definitely where you’ll get the dose of Beau and Asher performance (5:20 onwards), however the opening Norwegian shots are hard not to find intriguing.
“Surfing in a place like Norway is by no means easy,” narrates Asher Pacey. “The landscapes were truly something to behold. The wind howling through the valleys, the atmosphere and even the cold feeling is something that you really need to be there to experience. It’s a hard one to convey. I’ll never forget those times.”
Original soundtrack: Nenui, Spampipe, Kachaev & Superflu
