Eithan Osborne Finds the Midpoint in Life’s Imperfections

Riding a high-performance Channel Islands surfboard is like driving a McClaren P1— it’s fast, responsive, and belongs on a race track. A handshape (if you’re not a professional shaper) is more like driving a Tyson big wheel—a reliable method of transportation, no doubt, but it’s not as easy to whip around. The big wheel doesn’t accelerate as fast as you want it to, and highway exit ramps aren’t as fun.
That said, there is something uniquely exciting about riding a board you’ve made.
Eithan Osborne recently worked with his pal (and fellow air guy) Brad Flora to make a homemade rendition of his favorite CI model, the Neck Beard 2. The resulting board is far from perfect, but fortunately Eithan could put a first-generation iPad on rail.
Osborne finds a few sections to lean into and supposedly stomped a massive air on it during the first session. You’ll have to wait until Snapt 4 to see the punt, but apparently, it’s a doozie.
