Derek Hynd, first in the water at J-Bay after Mick Fanning vs Shark
Today in Shark Week: One hour after Mick Fanning bare knuckle boxed a shark during the final of the J-Bay Open, Derek Hynd paddled out at the point on an 11’6″ finless board. He paddled out along with a few other locals who couldn’t resist the empty, perfect lineup. During the aftermath of the attack, at the WSL booth, you could see Derek eerily gliding up and over six foot glass walls. While on-shore emotions colored in with relief, love, priorities and embrace, Mr Hynd slid friction free.
