Making Teenage Surfers Envious With Dakoda Walters
Who doesn’t want to be flown around the globe to stand on a foam toy in the ocean?
Surfboards like jet skis, motorcycles and certain Beanie Babies are just expensive play things. All bring a certain amount of joy, thrill and require love and attention (especially Beanie Babies). It’s every child, teenage and adult surfer’s desire to be flown around on someone else’s dime and paid to take their favourite toy into the ocean.
For Dakoda Walters, a 15-year-old grom from the east coast of Oz, that dime is Billabong’s. But, unlike most 18U kids with his skill set, he actually attends high school. Recently, he’s slipped into the stream that every aspiring pro surfer dreams of: leaving home to surf locales such as Tahiti, California, Mex and Indo. Here he is on his first trip to America, exhibiting surfing that coincides with awkward adolescence.
