Crosby Colapinto Wants More Pipeline Tube Time Than His Brother
The VTCS Pipeline champ talks Vans Pipe Masters.
In 2022, Crosby Colapinto was the lone chink in John Florence’s Marine X armor during the digital Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
While John took honors at Sunset Beach and Haleiwa, the younger Colapinto brother won the Pipeline portion of the reformatted VTCS by embracing the ugliest Backdoor knuckle that swung his way that winter. At first, it looked like Crosby was the benefactor of lucky happenstance, but it turns out that was his plan all along.
“If you’re not from there, I feel like you have to go on the waves that are a little bit scarier that nobody wants,” Crosby states in the clip above.
Crosby is one of 20 non-Hawaiians invited to the Vans Pipe Masters. He and Griffin have spent years on the North Shore bagging heart-in-throat waves. Look no further than their profile film, DNA: The Colapinto Brothers, for evidence. But Crosby knows he has room to improve on this backhand. He’s openly stated his desire to dial in backside rotations. And what better place to hone them than over the reef at Pipeline?
Tune in sometime between December 8-20 to watch Crosby’s attempt to prove he’s the best tube rider in the family.
