Coco Ho Returns To Texas After Career-Altering Injury, Proceeds To Show Air Section Who’s Boss
Redemption is oh so sweet.
It’s almost exactly a year ago to the day that Coco Ho tore her MCL.
This event was notable for many reasons.
The fact that Coco was learning air reverses over a decade into her CT tenure is a testament to her work ethic and progressive mentality. The fact that she attributed her desire to fly to our Stab High Ladybirds is both adorable and flattering. And while all of these facts are noteworthy, they neglect the bigger picture.
In all sports, there are men and women who are lauded as much for their athletic ability as they are their tenacity. Cal Ripken Jr. in baseball, Vince Carter in basketball, and Brett Favre in football come to mind.
Favre set the precedent for the modern “Iron Man” quarterback, starting 297 consecutive games over the course of 19 years (although he used a little help). In that sense (but not the steroids sense), Coco Ho is the Brett Favre of the women’s professional surfing.
After not missing an event for 11 years in the lead-up to her wavepool mishap, then having to pull out of one event and limp through the rest as a result of her bung knee, Coco missed the cut and fell off Tour.
Some would take this experience as a life lesson: don’t do airs. But Coco ain’t that person. You best believe she had to come back and claim redemption.
After logging a few hours in the pool with Olympian boyfriend Mark McMorris, who himself was on a mission to land something new, Coco stomped a few clean air-revos and put a cap on what has been a tumultuous past 12 months indeed. A tip of the hat to you, Coco!
