Caity Simmers — Extreme Competitive Surf Vlogger

Cool is chemical.

Some of the people whose creative bodies of work I admire most, seem as though they never wanted to be fucking famous.

Bob Dylan, Dave Rastovich, Dane Reynolds, Cormac McCarthy, Hunter Thompson — at the very least, have all had complex relationships with the spotlight cast upon them.

Some chose reclusivity — others chose to poke fun at the status quo with their respective creations and deflect praise with sheepishness.

In my mind, Caity Simmers sits in the latter category — and currently atop our 2023 Audience Survey, neck and neck with Stephanie Gilmore.

Though I haven’t directly asked her — because she would probably say “I don’t know” — Caity seems like she couldn’t give a damn about Instagram followers or catering to any expectations.

“I don’t like when people tell me they’re putting me on their WSL Fantasy Team, because I never know what to say,” she once told me.

From here, it seems like she simply wants to do the thing she does best — surf.

The rest of it — fans, CT event wins, compelling surf films —  just comes as part of the package.

Not to mention fire female soundtracks.

And, if you think we promote Caity too much, talk to Steph Gilmore about it.

“Cheers to getting Toasted.”

(Or her O-side squad.)
