Breaking: Frenchman Finally Paddles The Far Bar
Pierre Rollet goes sans internal combustion engine in Hossegor.
Who among us hasn’t contemplated the far bar?
You see one set here. Then one set there. Then a quick (long) lull. Then, ’Oh, that one’s perfect — but it did break 200 meters out further than the rest.’
Eventually, you resign. You’d need a jet ski to get a good one. Otherwise, there’s just no way you’d find yourself in the right place at the right time. You’ll have to look for a shorey double-up or a more sheltered stretch of coast. Oh well.
Guess what, sunshine? “Oh well” isn’t fucking good enough for Oxbow’s Pierre Rollet.
La Nord — which means The North but is ironically situated at the southern end of the good waves in Hossegor — has long been the domain of human arms. But when it gets to a certain size, the far bars north of there, in the vicinity of Les Culs Nuls and Les Estagnots become a jet ski festival.
Four meters at 15 seconds is that certain size. And Pierre took a 9’0” and gave it a crack. Suuuuuueeeeeeeeyyyyy.
While the edit from Oxbow above doesn’t quite feature that one single wave, it does create an aura of hope for all of our French friends who prefer skis of the après variatel rather than the jet — what, given the cost of SP95 at Leclerc lately ‘n all. Woof
To close, note that their Pierre’s marathon session continued this past weekend as he hosted back-to-back premiere/party nights as temps rise, streets swell with humanity, parking becomes a competitive sport, and summer creeps up on southwest France.
It’s a beautiful thing, really.
