A Portuguese Excursion With Parker Coffin And The Moniz Bros
Enough jumps and tunnels to convince anyone to take a Euro trip.
Every year, almost without fail, the Portuguese leg of the World Tour is a let down for waves. Swells are consistently promised and both the surfers and viewers are instead presented with a viewing which doesn’t live up to the title, Supertubos.
Fortunately, this short film from Marc Chambers has little to do with the tour; there’s a QS snippet, but otherwise it’s just footage of brothers and friends scoring. There’s Kanoa Igarashi, Parker Coffin, Kiron Jabour, Nic Von Rupp and both Josh and Seth Moniz.
Over the course of their Euro stint they find themselves parked in a plentiful number of tunnels and surf a multitude of beachbreaks which would strike the curse of jealousy into any city-dweller. The boys also surf the world’s shittest wave under a bridge and tempers take an expected irritable turn after a few too many hours spent on the road.
I’ve never been to Portugal, but after watching this, maybe it’s worth a crack.
P.S. Why hasn’t Parker made the tour yet?
