A New Board We’d Like To Try: The ACSOD Monster

Mark Twain said, “Too much of anything is bad.”

He was not a surfer.

Because no matter how many boards find their way into our garage, car, or that secret little cubby where our S.O. won’t find them, we can’t help but lust over whichever brand is encasing their foam in a remotely new, different, or even practically identical way.

Enter ACSOD’s Monster model, as sampled by Burleigh’s Toby Mossop above.

Granted, the colors in the video and Toby’s gooey style would make just about any board look enticing. But if you ignore these factors and focus simply on how it moves across the water, you can tell that this board goes. But don’t just take it from this peeping tom, here are Toby’s precise and only somewhat biased thoughts:

The Monster quickly became my favourite board for smaller waves. It really surprised me in the Maldives. I pretty much rode it every session. Could put it on rail and get it above the lip so it’s a go-to for me.

Featuring the stylings of Toby Mossop.

And now, a few totally biased but nonetheless informative words from the shaper, Alex Crews (yes, Mitch’s brother):

‘The Monster is a fast and lively step-down. Flat rocker nose to tail, nice full outline, forgiving boxy rails, deep concaves and a generous distribution of volume for maximum paddle power. Key elements that make the Monster a fast and lively board in the day-to-day ankle slappers we cop to often”

Wave range: 1-4ft beach breaks for reefs.

Ride: 2-3 inches shorter and 1L more volume

For an independent but still partially biased review (we’re pals with Alex), you’ll have to stay tuned for an upcoming Joyride featuring the Monster.
