Soli Bailey Just Dropped A Fine Surf Part
Wave at 1:02 is tapped.
Times are changing quickly in surfing.
At least it feels that way.
We have major production companies trying to import surfing to a mainstream audience, cutthroat format changes ‘streamlining’ tours and breaking young hearts, three billion environmentally-questionable wavepools being proposed in urban settings, Opera Winfrey execs steering ship, A-listers flinging boards at heads etc.
Evolution or atrophy? It’s hard to say.
What you will see on the front pages of media outlets are cherry-picked stories that drive engagement. A highly non-random sample of ‘happenings’ in the world. (Mostly) big names, big drama, the worst and occasionally best sides of our humanity (and surfing), salacious goss, shark attacks… That is what lights up google analytics.
The state of affairs you see in the (surf) world is a matter of what you decide to spend your finite attention on coloring it. So it’s your choice. Get mad or get inspired. Sometimes it’s nice to do both.
Love Soli’s surfing. The hi-fi hungry professional star of S.U.R.F (keep your eyes peeled for a follow-up) and a former Volcom Pipe Pro winner, Soli’s surfing is what CT-grade meat and potato mastery looks like with a little added spice. The kind of surfing we can all aspire towards.
Also, this is cutely shot with a nice soundtrack.
Good stuff.
