2022 Stab In The Dark Surfer, Revealed

To be a Stab In The Dark surfer is to be in elite company: Julian Wilson, Dane Reynolds, Jordy Smith, Mick Fanning and Taj Burrow are all veterans of our signature double-blind surfboard test. A few of them even returned for seconds. And who wouldn’t, with a custom quiver from the best board builders in the world on offer? Winning shapers include DHD, Pyzel, …Lost, Channel Islands, and Sharpeye.

This year’s 13 shapers — some veterans, some first-time participants — were given the following information about the 2022 Stab In The Dark mystery surfer:

• Male, on the CT
• 5’11” (180cm)
• 178 lbs (81kg)
• Rides a standard 5’11” shortboard between 29 and 31 liters

That’s it. They shaped their best high-performance boards and shipped them to an exposed Pacific Island, where we lined ‘em up like criminals and revealed them to our witness — the one, the only, Mr. Jack Robinson.

Till then, Jack, the sixth surfer to ever do Stab In The Dark, will be putting those 12 mystery sticks through their paces. Thought we said 13? Sigh. Poor Jack was forced to eliminate a board on the spot. Shit’s getting real this year.
