What Brazilian Superstars Did Kelly Slater Party With In Brazil (Post Hospitalization!)

Gossip Girl: screw sinusitis, Slater loves Brazil (and fraternizing in the upper echelons of humanity!)

With the start of Jeffreys Bay this week (well, today actually), and healthy swell leading up to the Corona J-Bay Pro, many here in Safa were wondering, Just where the hell is Kelly Slater?

Rumors swirled: Did he have Yellow Fever, and would South Africa bar him at the Rio boarding gate? Was he stuck in Brazil for three weeks, possibly quarantined? Etc. Etc.

Last week it was revealed that Kelly had fallen ill, hospitalized even, battling “H1N1 and sinusitis” in Rio, while the rest of the World Tour quickly descended on Jeffreys, or battled for requalification in Ballito. Slates health turned around quickly, but the man was still slow to leave Rio, which at first seemed odd considering his avoidance of the country for the last five years…

However, the explanation’s as simple as it is surprising: it’s a long and well-known fact that Kelly Slater loves to mingle with those more famous than he from disciplines that exceed our silly little niche.

In fact, around mid-Final’s Day of the Oi Rio Pro, Gossip Girl slipped out of bed and over to see if she could get the nod into Gabby’s party, just as Neymar helicoptered in.

The tabloid-frazzled superstar was planning to celebrate with his good pal Gabby if he won (just as he did in Portugal when Gabby could have grabbed the Title). Though he’s yet to get to send it with Gabs properly, the boys instead spent the afternoon and evening getting down with some of Brazil’s Most Beautiful, with countless gorgeous ladies in town for the four-day weekend bender, as well as Kelly Slater, who made his way over and into the middle of a heated altinha circle, getting thoroughly ribbed when he let the ball touch the ground…)

A few days later, Slater posted w/r/t falling ill, and left the world wondering: would he no-show Jeffreys?  Would he remain isolated in some dark Rio quarantine cell?

Well, last week, Slater was more than spotted with Gabby at the birthday party of volleyball player Bruno Rezende, with Gabby, Neymar, controversial Brazilian TV star and entrepreneur Luciano Huck, musician Thiaguinho, and actor Rafael Zulu.

Kelly and Luciano Huck.

According to Marie Clare Brazil and TV Foco, after beating the virus and sinus infection, “(sic)Kelly Slater had great moments with his friends… [including Real Madrid soccer star] Vinicius Jr, talked a lot with his friend and published a photo next to the biggest surfer in the world.

It was a fruitful meeting and on that same day, there was a publication of a record of all together that left the whole public happy to see the friendship of the stars. In social networks, what was not lacking was compliments and many comments.”

The next day, Slater missed his early flight out, but still managed to show up for the weekend’s surfs at Jeffreys, rocking a 4/3 and gloves (but interestingly, no boots).

Until next time xoxo,

GG
