Watch Live: Extraordinarily Talented Children Get Barreled In France
The Rip Curl GromSearch International Final is on!
Best grom comp in the world?
It ain’t even a question. The Rip Curl GromSearch is the undisputed champ.
They’ve been at it since the turn of the millennium, and here’s a stat to chew on: Over 60% of current CT surfers are former GromSearch winners. Past champs include Caity Simmers, Caroline Marks, Gabriel Medina, Erin Brooks, Brisa Hennessy, Samuel Pupo, Leonardo Fioravanti, Tatiana Weston-Webb, Owen Wright, Mason Ho, and so on.
This year’s International Final just got called on at Santosha in Capbreton, France. The waves are about chest high. The wind is offshore. The sun is shining, and don’t the Pyrenees mountains look awfully pretty off to the south, there?
That’s also a rhetorical question — yes, they do.
After qualifying events around the world, our planet’s best under-16 surfers have shown up in France ready to etch their name next to Caity’s. Here’s the full list:
Australia: Locana Cullen (of Stab High fame), Eliza Richardson
North America: Finn Castle, Ocea Green
Brazil: Arthur Vilar de Souto Araújo Filho, Carolina Teixeira Bastides
Europe: Jaime Veselko, Anouk Chennaux
Indonesia: Aditya Somiya, Jasmine Studer
South Africa: Kai Stubbs, Emily Jenkinson
Argentina: Faustino Llorca
Local French female wildcard: Rose Calvez
#GromSearch Online Winners: Ocean Lancaster, Talia Tebb
Today’s action will feature a seeding round, straight into the one-on-one quarterfinals. If the waves stay good, they’ll rip through the entire event in a day. Otherwise, there’s plenty more swell tomorrow. Paul Evans is on the mic. Molly Picklum and Crosby Colapinto are cruising around on site. And there’s much good surfing going down.
