Warning Graphic: Another Shark Attack Victim In Maui
Matt Meola explains.
On Friday, Maui was the venue of another shark attack. It’s the second this week (the last being Friday, Oct 14 on a female snorkeler) and the sixth this year. The attack took place 50 yards from shore at Ho’okipa Beach. The victim: Frederic H Jaime, who was reportedly bitten on his left arm by a five-foot reef shark, who let go and for good measure came back around for a bite out of his left leg. Matt Meola, one of Maui’s finest aerial surfers, was on shore where he got this quick video of the aftermath.
“I don’t know what happened I posted a video yesterday because I saw it all go down,” Matt tells Stab in an attempt to get the story straight. “He had plenty of help before I got down there, then a story got out saying I did all this stuff. I don’t want people to think I’m some sort of hero, I just happened to film and post it.”
“I was just sitting on the beach and I saw Frederic before he went out,” Matt continues. “Then a couple minutes later we saw a huge pack of people paddling in. Then they got to shore and someone called an ambulance and I just ran down with my phone and filmed him. He got bit on the arm, then the shark came back and bite him on the leg. Scott Truden and a paramedic named Luke were the guys that tied the tourniquet and a bunch of other people helped get him to shore.”
