Vintage Vibrations at the Cosmic Creek
Last weekend, Vissla’s Cosmic Creek hit the beach at Salt Creek in fab fashion. Fun, small-sized peelers reeled off the point, accompanied by a gang of our favorite pros on surfboards one might call “groovy.” Day one saw sunny weather and solid surfing, all to the tunes of vinyl-spinning Reverberation Radio, keeping the vibes ever-ethereal throughout the day. Saturday night was capped off with live performances by Tropical Popsicle and Froth, who took full advantage of the natural amphitheater of the Salt Creek grass hill (oh, the slip-n-slide potential!). Day two continued with the vinyl vibes straight into the finals, which consisted of Colin Moran, Kalani Robb, Dane Gudang, Sammy Orozco, Noah Schweizer and Nasty Nate Yeomans. Derrick Disney was coined the “Cosmic of Cosmic” (quite prestigious in the world of long-hair-don’t-care). Noa Deane stayed glued to the face with some cheater fives on his fav single fin, while Cam Richards bailed on the final to catch a flight (so cosmic!). Finally, Christian Fletcher wrapped his last heat by ollie’ing over one of his competitor’s boards. Until next year, the Cosmic Creek shall return to its proper place in the cosmos, from which it came.
