Teen Bitten By Shark This Morning In San Diego
His condition is currently unknown.
Around 7 am on Saturday, September 29, the Encinitas Police Department was informed of a potential shark attack at Beacons beach in North County, San Diego.
One witness said approximately 30 people were in the water at the time of the attack, attempting to catch lobster. According to the witness, the victim was a teenage boy on a diving trip.
The witness said that the boy initially screamed out of fear, then yelled, “I got bit!”
“I paddled to him,” the witness said, “and there was a big wake of blood behind him. His entire back was open. The shark hit him in the clavicle. The shark’s top teeth got him in his cheek.”
Photos from the scene showed lifeguards treating the boy on the beach before transferring him to a helicopter to be taken to the hospital.
According to the San Diego Sheriff’s Office, the 13-year-old boy was flown to Rady Children’s Hospital with serious injuries to his ear and shoulder.
A Rady Children’s spokesperson said his condition at this time is unknown.
Encinitas lifeguards have officially called all surfers and swimmers out of the water.
Stab wishes the best to the victim and his family.
