The last time surfing released a video game was twenty years ago.

Kelly Slater Pro Surfer launched as an extreme sports video game developed by Treyarch and published by Activision for Game Boy Advance, GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2002. Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer received “generally favorable reviews” on all platforms according to video game review aggregator Metacritic. For its time, its gameplay and design was killer.

Twenty years later 1988 World Champ, Barton Lynch and the developers at Bungurra Software are ressurecting the surf video game. “We are surfers who are passionate about the core sport of surfing, along with the culture and the freedom of what we do. I guess we’re full on surfing geeks,” says Andrew West, CEO Bungarra. “We’ve been building surfing games for years and our very first demo was a simulation. Circumstance had sidetracked us away from our desire to make a truly sport focused surfing game, but now we’ve come full circle. So when it came down to figuring out who we wanted to work with on this game, it was a pretty simple call really.”

Bungarra is a team of eight who’ve been developing this game for the past two and a half years on a modest budget. “We believe that we’ve developed a game that has gameplay depth for surfers in particular, and also non surfers with a passing interest in our sport and lifestyle. Our goal is to give you a slice of the surf sport experience or to just free surf and chill, and hopefully this resonates in a positive way,” said Bungarra CEO, Andrew West.

Game details are below.
