Seth Moniz Snags John Florence’s Pipe Masters Spot
The 2019 rookie will get his first taste of the CT this week.
John John Florence pulled out of the Pipe Masters this week, stating that he “doesn’t have full trust in [his] movements,” which was John’s personal requirement for returning to competition.
That leaves a total of three Pipe Masters spot up for grabs, two of which will be decided via the Pipe Trials and one of which falls under the WSL’s jurisdiction.
Due his position as the highest-rated Hawaiian surfer on the QS, Seth Moniz has been tapped to fill Florence’s void. This will be Seth’s first official CT venture, which comes on the heels of his recent qualification and AI Breakthrough Performer award at Surfer Poll.
Seth is naturally elated.
As mentioned, there are still two Pipe Masters slots available for the first and second-place finishers in the trials. Here is the heat draw:
Pipe looks like it could run over the next few days, if the wind decides to settle down. We’ll be covering the action whenever it occurs.
