Pro Surfers’ Beer Company Finishes Fourth In Beer Poll
Some beer tastes better than others.
It’s no surprise we’re fond of a good brew–amongst other things. Not to mention, right now in Oz the sun is out, and the dust and hangover from Australia Day have just about settled, plus it’s the weekend, do it all again.
We’re not picky, but also believe there’s no shame in expensive taste, or trading your VB for a finer “craft”. Recently, the Great Australasian Beer Spectacular (GABS) dropped their annual hottest 100 Aussie craft beer list, and Balter Brewery owned by Mick Fanning, Joel Parko, Josh Kerr, and Bede Durbidge came in fourth, just behind Stone and Wood Brewing Co., Pirate Life Brewing and Feral Brewing Co.
“To start with a concept and to see it all come to fruition in 10 months and out on the market is pretty mad, really,” Balter Brewing head Brewer Scott Hargrave told the Australian Associated Press after the rankings were released. “I was hoping we could make a beer that suits the Gold Coast…and we could make a real difference to people drinking better beer.”
The hard-work paid off. From a quality perspective, taking a carefully honest approach exploiting surfing’s obsession with suds was the right idea for the Goldie boys. Mick, Parko, Bede and Kerrzy are taking a hands-on approach to their liquid enterprise despite their busy professional lives, at many times manning the taps themselves.
So, if your curiosity’s piqued, give Balter a try–just remember the end result is always the same.
