Stab In The Dark Premieres At The House Of Vans, NYC
Good nights make for difficult mornings.
Does anyone in Brooklyn, NY surf? For the premiere of Stab In The Dark, starring Dane Reynolds, it didn’t really matter – the House Of Vans was simply too good to overlook as a venue. The lighting, the acoustics, the flexible aesthetics – it’s a versatile paradise. And outside that paradise this evening, wrapped a line down the street, of excited and well-dressed Brooklynites. All (see: most) discussion heard in the line was focused around Dane and which board-builder could possible win. Timmy Patterson? Maurice Cole? Haydenshapes? Chilli? Pyzel? Mayhem? DHD? Channel Islands? Stretch? Cole? JS? Rusty? Arakawa?
The crowd shuffled in, maybe because of free beer. Maybe because of Dane Reynolds. Like any event, a solid headliner makes for a turnout, and Mr Reynolds is as solid as a headliner as they come in surf.
People drank, ate tacos, rolled joints and the air was full of high spirit, smoke and laughter. As the film played, everyone remained captivated, such is Dane’s surfing throughout – a feat that simply doesn’t happen in Australia or Southern California, no matter who the surfers are and what the surf film is. Does this suggest this east coast metropolis as one of the areas keeping surf alive? Probably not.
