“Momentum Generation” Documentary Premieres Today At Tribeca Film Festival
Yes, this is news to us too.
In our infinitesimal world of surf, it’s uncommon that any sliver of news goes completely unnoticed. Thanks to helpful eyes and ears around the world, we typically know within hours when John lands a flip, when a shark takes a limb, when Kelly picks his nose. In a sport where everybody knows everybody and Instagram is the most common form of communication, it’s nearly impossible for a major cultural event to take place without us knowing.
I did say nearly.
Just this morning it came to our attention that Momentum Generation, a Robert Redford-produced film highlighting the fabled Weatherly complex right in front of Pipeline — the one that bred lifelong frenemyships between Slater, Dorian, Williams, Machado, Knox and so forth — would be premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival… today!
Whether Momentum Generation was purposefully kept under wraps or if the movie’s marketing team is simply terrible at their jobs remains unknown, but what we do know is that the whole Momentum crew, including 11x Champ Kelly Slater, big wave legend Shane Dorian, and professional hair model Rob Machado have been involved throughout the process of the film. Which is to say, it should be pretty tight.
This news has us anxiously flipping through our rolodex, searching for a nimble NY-based mind to visit Tribeca and review the film for us. With any luck, we’ll have full details up tomorrow.
