Leaked WSL Memo: “We Have Confidence In The Resumption Of The Pipe Masters”

And more from a WSL internal email.

Curious what’s gonna happen with the Pipe Masters/Women’s event/WSL’s ‘rona situation? Us too.

And frankly, we’ve been pretty useless at sourcing intel on the matter. Until today, when an unnamed CTer dropped an envelope on our doorstep, including a copy of the WSL’s (alleged) internal briefings to the surfers. Let’s split this sucker open, shall we?

From The WSL (allegedly):

Our protocols, which identified the original positive case and the contact tracing group, have contained the spread of the virus.

The contact tracing group has been in isolation since the original positive case, and no new cases have been reported since – including the results of the last PCR tests.

As such, we have confidence in the resumption of the Pipe Masters as well as the Maui Pro completing at Pipeline.

We’re working with State of Hawaii officials on the resumption of competition, and we expect clarity on that in the coming days. Looking ahead at the forecast, we will unlikely catch this fetch of swell and will be targeting the swell towards the end of the window.

And there you have it. The covid spread is (allegedly) contained, and assuming they receive a green light from the State of Hawaii officials, the WSL is primed to restart competition on the next swell pulse (looking like Thurs/Friday).

We’ll let you know when the next dispatch arrives.
