Kelly Has A Final Year Film, Conlogue Goes Her Own Way, And Kai Lenny Adds to His Black Eye

Gossip Girl is back, in rapid succession!

You read last night’s Gossip Girl, right?

Well, in fact, these rumours listed below were all apart of the original. But attention spans are shit these days: we scroll feeds mindlessly, make rash decisions on a whim, and usually skip over any article that isn’t in list format. To compensate for this – and for my poor writing – I’ve split it into two for you.

Very nice, I know.

The comp is about to run at Snapper, so, here’s some added goss you may or may not have heard, and which we found publishable… we aren’t out here to ruin careers!

Courtney Conlogue is off the ‘Bong

For the first event of 2019, Courtney Conlogue is stickerless. Billabong and Court have gone their own seperate ways.

Word has it, ‘Bong had a contract prepped for Courtney to re-sign, but instead, she’s opting to chase her own brand, nicknamed ‘Seatiger’ (which, coincidentally, is the name of her Carver skateboard model). IG link here!

“I travel the world in search of waves and a dream. In between my moments in the sea you’ll find me creating and painting my dream.”

Malia Manuel has a new sled

Malia has been riding Mayhem’s for a large proportion of her competitive career; at the Boost Mobile Pro, however, she is not. Whether it’s a permanent change, or just a location-based one, Malia is off Mayhem’s and on DHD’s this event.

While Stab’s always been a fan, she’s properly ripping this event, and even lucked into a behind-the-rock head dip this afternoon as seen in our quick condition report.

Kai Lenny adds a cut to his black eye

If you’ve been watching the webcast, or surfing locally, you might’ve seen that Kai Lenny – the modern, but loveable Laird – is sporting a blackened eye. Kai said his new goal is to become a ‘small wave savant’, and what that’s resulted in so far is a leash-assisted fin to the face and subsequent black eye. Nevertheless, Kai continued on his small wave trajectory and shortly after wound up with a cut to his cheek to accompany the bruise. A graze rumoured to have been due to another self-imposed board collision.

Kai comes out unscathed after riding maxing Jaws, but somehow comes unstuck, twice, riding three-foot lines on the Goldy. Who would’ve guessed.

Kelly Slater has a final-year film in the works

This year is Kelly’s last. Yes, we’ve heard it before, a number of times to be precise – he retired in the 90’s. This time however it seems to be for real. Alek Parker, the man behind Continuance (which won SURFER Poll best series) is travelling with Kelly all year, working on a film highlighting the GOAT’s final spin.

He may have landed square in the bottom at Snapper, but three-foot wedges haven’t been the King’s forte for a number of years. Teahupo’o and Pipe however are a little different.

That’s it, for now…
