John John Florence and Kolohe Andino, the two males surfers representing the US in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, were both spotted surfing this week after facing injuries.

John is fresh off a knee injury that happened in May, and Kolohe from an aggravated high ankle sprain in March. They have a little over a month before the start of the Olympics.

From the looks of his Instagram story, Kolohe seems to be back to full health, or at least the majority of the way there. His wife posted this clip of him today, riding a standard shortboard and delivering a subtle guillotine chop to yee ol’ end section. Brother will be flying high and stomping big dog full roters in no time.

John, on the other hand, is just scratching the surface of a full recovery. Watching the worlds best surfer (said it, deal with it) stiffly drop in wearing a knee brace gives me the anxiety of a worried mother. I just want him to be safe, tis all.

He was spotted surfing two different boards. One massive red gun, and the other a normal shortboard. Just a theory, but I’m gonna assume he paddled out on the gun to be safe. After a wave or two, he must’ve got hungry for the real thing and made brother Ivan do a trade-off. John is such a fucking animal. I could run him over with my Mazda during the opening ceremony and he’d still try to recover in time.

Don’t get any Tonya Harding ideas though, Slater.
