After seven days of competition, it finished.

On the men’s side Rio Waida, the Indonesian Olympian, forthcoming G-Land wildcard and most recent SEOTY entrant took down Ry Cal in the final with a series of lightning fast backside whacks. His 9.5? A tad generous given the fall on the finish, but still, speedy, powerful surfing on a soupy rip bowl isn’t easy. He made it look so.

On the women’s side, Portuguese Olympian Teresa Bonvalot edged out co-star of the Stab x Coopers ‘Long Road Home’, Nikki Van Dijk in a slow final. Kudos to both women now ranked #3 and #2 respectively after the Aus leg. They will be heading to Durban for stop #3 within the CT qualification cutline.

In the log div, Harrison Roach, Mysterious Affairer and fellow ‘Long Road Home’ cast member to Nikki rinsed Ben Skinner, while Honolua Bloomfield narrowly pipped Chloe Calmon.

Personal highlight was Kaipo’s summary of the event in the post-event briefing alongside Shannon Hughes and Richie Lovett where he uttered, “I don’t want to say schizophrenic but we saw a plethora of different scenarios when it came to the wave out here”.

Christ.
