Guess Who Just Got Sponsored By Vans Head-To-Toe…
Hint: they’ve got a bob cut and a perma-tan.
If ever there was a man who could wrangle a highly-coveted apparel deal in these tight-pocketed times, it’s Alexander Knost.
The California-kid-who-never-grew-up parted ways with his long-time seamstress RVCA today, which freed him to partner with a new thread barron.
Today, Spicoli’s clever cousin and surfing’s most culturally-penetrative brand made their holy union official.
Here’s the official squiz from Vans:
Alex’s inimitable style and unbridled creativity inspire generations of talented creatives, from surfers, artists, musicians, designers, and the list goes on. Forging an indelible mark on the Vans Surf program, Knost has established himself not only as a pioneer of his craft, but an integral voice in honing Vans’ evolving surf identity. This August, Vans proudly announces Knost has officially joined the global Vans apparel program.
Part of the Vans family since 2006, Knost is most commonly recognized for his eclectic style, both in and out of the water. From making art and collaborating with fashion labels, to creating music with his band, Tomorrow’s Tulips, and handcrafting his own boards through his personal label, he has a deep influence that extends beyond surfing alone.
Say what you will about the mop-headed man, but there truly is no one like Knost.
Or, perhaps it would be more appropriate to say that anybody like Alex, is that way because they’re emulating him. Knost is largely responsible for surfing’s “alternative”/”hipster”/whatever-you-want-to-call-it movement of the past decade, which if nothing else, has sold its fair share of 15” boardies.
This is a clever pick-up for Vans, and we see it lasting a long, long time.
