Over the past month, we polled the 50 most influential voices in surfing on who the best surfers of 2018 were. We talked to the likes of Gabriel Medina, Mason Ho, Filipe Toledo, John Florence, Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow, Mick Fanning, Noa Deane, Owen Wright, Albee Layer, Nathan Florence, Koa Rothman, and so many more.
We asked them:
Whose surfing captured the imagination of the world’s best?
Whose surfing inspired/excited you most?
Who is, in fact, the best surfer of the year?
We got responses ranging from the CT to the QS, from the guys with the best video parts to the those who get their kicks pulling into massive 60-foot pits.
Our multi-part Surfer of the Year series will launch New Year’s Eve in Australia and continue on for ten days until a number one is declared.
