To commemorate the commencement of this years Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, a barbecue was in order. If only as an excuse to hang with our favorite faces on the North Shore — and because everyone loves BBQs — we got together last night to drink some beers and talk about surfing.

Under a drizzling evening sky, banter was tossed back and forth, plates were piled, and the rules for the 40th annual VTCS were explained.

As always, the rules and format can be found here.

And, for a full look at last nights antics, scroll down:

Mikey and Zelti February brought their newest family member.

Mahina and Nathan Florence.

Juliette Lacome and Shane Sykes.

Nathan Fletcher’s gotta fuel the rocket engine somehow.

The two goofy footed style-groms, Koldo Illumbe and Tosh Tudor, decided to show up.

Shane Sykes, Thomas Hermes, Kainehe Hunt, and Ryan Riopko had some catching up to do.

If you win, you get bragging rights, some cash, AND a piece of art.

Tanner Gudauskas blessed us with his ever positive presence

Dylan Graves and Tanner Gudauskas

Patrick Gudauskas brought his kiddo to hang as well.

Sophie Bell, Talia Swindal, and Bella Kenworthy

As a refresher, you can check all of the athletes involved this year, keep up with the rankings, and catch all the action at vanstriplecrownofsurfing.com
