American Wave Machines Is Building A Pool 2x The Size Of Waco In Brazil
Did somebody say ‘A-frame’?
Due to their modular design, pneumatic wave systems provide unparalleled versatility in artificial wave generation.
Or, in normal human speak, they can make all sorts of waves—waves that go left, waves that go right, waves that throw sections here and there, waves that close-out, waves that never close-out, tubes, crumbly lips, so on and so forth.
The other cool thing about pneumatic wave systems is that they are theoretically limitless, meaning if you kept adding chambers to the wall, the wave would extend ad infinitum.
Which brings us to today’s news: American Wave Machines is building one of its Perfect Swell pools in Brazil, and it’s going to be 2x the size of their BSR Surf Ranch pool in Waco, Texas.
The official literature reads:
American Wave Machines, Inc. (AWM) announces PerfectSwell® Boa Vista with licensed partner JHSF in Brazil. Part of the massive 370 acre Boa Vista Village project near São Paulo, the surf pool will be nearly twice as large as the PerfectSwell® installation in Waco, Texas. In addition to residential land plots, Golf Residences and other future developments, the first phase project includes The Surf Lodge Hotel and The Surf Lodge Residences designed by renowned architects Sig Bargamin and Pablo Slemenson.
Etc.
If you’ve surfed Waco, you know that their “Pointbreak” setting (the longest wave in the Perfect Swell glossary) is good for roughly four turns before you hit flat water. For most of us, four turns on one wave is more than enough to get the glutes firing, but our hindquarters pale in comparison to those of Medina, Ferreira, and most importantly, Wiggolly ‘Dat-ass’ Dantas. Which is why a pool with twice the chambers of Waco—therefore providing a wave twice as long as Waco’s—will be the ultimate Brazilian backhand hanger endurance test.

But the increased scope of this pool mightn’t just mean longer waves. We don’t know this for sure, but our minds are spinning at the possibility of an A-frame that begins in the middle of the pool and fires off in either direction. This would double the amount of people that could surf the pool at any time, and no one would feel shafted by the “directional preferences” (aka stance) of their session-mates.
You want to go right, go right. You want to go left, you should really see a therapist or something.
The longer-wave option also presents the option for multiple air sections on a single ride, which could turn Stab High on its head. Imagine a combo-specific air event!
As if we needed another reason to visit Brazil. We’ll be the first to inform you when this thing is up and running.
