When, Where, And Why To Run A Front Pad

Mitch Coleborn elaborates in Creatures of Leisures’ Shaper Series.

The front pad resurgence is peaking. Not long ago, only a select few opted for front foot grip. But now, nearly every aerially inclined surfer is swapping out wax for the permanent alternative.

Whether it’s for the added grip, added squish, or maybe just because everyone else is whacking them on, front pads are no longer a nostalgic trip.

Mitch Coleborn, however, is one surfer who’s been pro-front pad before it was a trend.

Here, in Creatures of Leisure’s second Shaper Series ep, Mitch and Chilli’s handyman, James Cheal, run through Coleborn’s quiver and the reasons he’s all about the foamy grip up front.

“More fun, more confidence, better for airs, more grip, less wax, and less hassle. But I wouldn’t be chucking ’em on if I was going to J-Bay.”

And according to Mitch, Creatures’ latest pad doesn’t tear your guts apart when you’re surfing topless.
