The World’s First Carbon Capture Boardshort Has Arrived

Quiksilver’s Highline Pro is the most technically overqualified boardshort in surfing.

Quiksilver calls its premium range “Highline” because that’s where the extra time and money go.

Highline also stands for additional testing, resources, nerdery, and more time spent bothering engineers about hydrophobic coatings while they’re trying to eat lunch.

Spending €100 on Quiksilver’s new boardshort won’t change your life or make you surf like Hughie Vaughan, and to keep both us and Quik out of any potential legal kerfuffles, nobody’s promising that either.

But if you spend enough time surfing in warm water, you start appreciating the microscopic details: how they don’t cling to your thighs, how fast they dry before you sit down for your post-surf meal, and how they seem to disappear once you’re wearing them. The added value comes from what you don’t notice, such is the level of minutiae put into them.

That’s what Quik is aiming for with the new Highline Pro boardshort. They’re also calling it the “world’s first carbon capture boardshort.” Just what you’d eavesdrop on between panel discussions at Davos.

What it actually means is that someone who presumably has a deep understanding of chemistry figured out how to capture CO2 emissions at a factory and turn them into a textile instead of letting them escape into the atmosphere. Such fabric was partially used to create the ultra-light, stretchy fabric you’ll enjoy in these trunks.

We also dig the side cuts, which are designed to free up movement but happen to be easy on the eyes as well.
